Bremerton was incorporated in October of 1891. The city Mayor at that time was Alvyn Croxton. Alvyn Croxton was the first mayor of Bremerton. During the First World War the city had increased their employment to over five thousand employees that worked on the construction of a submarine and a drycock. Bremerton and the Puget Sound shipyard had changed very much since the beginnings.
The resulting development of this city had brought new families from around the United States to live and visit the city. The city first economic activities just like other western communities of Washington were: The lumber and timber industry.
During the 1970s and 1980s the city of Bremerton had experienced a reduction on its central business of major retail sales.
